I spent my career working in journalism, first as a writer and later as an editor. This work helped me develop a crisp, clear writing style and an appreciation for the finer points of grammar. As an editor I particularly enjoyed helping new journalists improve their writing skills, which sparked my interest in tutoring students in writing, English and reading. Reading goes hand in hand with writing; it is key to succeeding in school and in life. Each student is unique and learns best in different ways. I will develop a customized tutoring plan with measurable goals. My goal will be to make learning interesting and enjoyable, and to help students gain confidence in their abilities. I earned my undergraduate degree in journalism at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and a master's in business administration from Lindenwood University in Belleville, IL.

I love to hike both close to home and on trips to national parks, most recently Yellowstone and Glacier. I am an avid traveler and frequently visit Japan, where my son teaches English to junior high students. I enjoy reading, especially biographies and mysteries. I am just getting started as a volunteer for Make-a-Wish.
