I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of Colgate University where I received my Bachelor of Arts with a major in English Literature and a minor in Asian Studies. I have two graduate degrees. My first Masters was an MBA from the Binghamton University School of Management, but I went back to Binghamton University's School of Education for my Masters in Teaching English. I have traveled extensively throughout my career to study and to teach, most recently attending the Collaborative Online International Learning Conference in Cairo, Egypt, and meeting with my counterpart in Beirut, Lebanon. While I was in college, I had the privilege of traveling to Europe for vocal performance opportunities, and to India to study music, dance and English language literature.
I spent thirteen years in the high school classroom setting, but while I do love teaching in the classroom, some of my favorite and most memorable teaching experiences have been the small group or one-on-one tutoring sessions I had there and in the subsequent seven years I spent on college campuses.
I worked as a professional tutor for approximately five years, and then became the Coordinator of the Writing Center at a small liberal arts college in upstate New York. During my time in this position, I was able to attend the weeklong Thinking and Writing Institute at Bard College. I am most passionate about my belief that everyone has something to contribute to the world, and writing can be the way that they make that contribution, whether it is a tool in the thinking process or the actual instrument of their contribution. I have experience helping students from teenagers to septuagenarians with feeling more confident, producing better writing, and becoming involved in the world of academic discourse. Although I am recently retired from teaching, I miss helping students to achieve their goals. Since I don't have a full time teaching schedule I have more time for pool and open water swimming, taking walks and hiking in nature, and playing with my four-year-old Australian Shepherd Mix. I still enjoy reading and writing every day, and I hope that I can help you to do the same.
