I have 2 bachelors degrees from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.
The first was a B.A. in Mathematics. The second was a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
I have 2 years of part - time tutoring experience, as well as coaching middle school football.
I enjoy tutoring elementary and middle school math as well as reading and writing. I believe these are the building blocks for all future education and; if a student has a firm foundation in these areas, they should be able to more easily cope with future learning / educational experiences, whether in a school or workplace environment.
I equally enjoy teaching both math and reading / writing.
If a student has trouble reading or writing, they will probably always have trouble understanding things and being able to properly communicate with others.
And being comfortable with math will help students be better able to analyze and solve non-math problems, whether personal or work environment, that they will encounter later on. They will be better able to think analytically.
My tutoring style is to help students to think analytically. What is being asked? What information do you have? Do you have enough info. to solve the problem? Do you need to get more information? How can you get that info?
Similar questions would apply to help a student with reading. What is the author talking about? Do you understand what you read? Would you like to read more articles / books like this? Why or why not?
I enjoy tutoring because I like to help people. I was not a gifted student and had to work REALLY hard to get good grades. Hence, I can relate to a student who is struggling and doesn't easily "see" something. I am willing to try different approaches to help a student "see the light".
My personal interests include travel, reading and exercise. I have exercised my entire life and continue to do so now. I believe that exercise is the "fountain of youth"!
I have traveled to Asia, Europe and much of the US.
I also enjoy reading. I have trouble keeping up with the magazines I get, as well as books I would like to read!
And, of course, there are some interesting shows I watch on TV.
I try to stay active, informed and in good health.
