Certified Tutor

Working with people and the writing process are two things that I enjoy tremendously. I realize that most people I tutor do NOT enjoy writing. However, I see writing as an act of creation where the student is often able to express something personal, to convey their own beliefs and style.

Writing often brings together many topics and ideas, and because I've had academic success in business, science, humanities and arts, I feel confident tutoring writing, whatever the topic. I believe I have the ability to help my students approach their written assignment in an enjoyable and appealing way. My goal is for my student to enjoy our work together, excel at the topic at hand, and learn a process to use independently.

My education is in biology (MS, University of Rochester), psychology (BA, Empire State College), and fine arts (BFA, Syracuse University). I'm also a practicing board-certified functional medicine health coach, and a life coach. I'm tutoring students purely because it's something I enjoy.

I'm a parent of young adults who are "non-traditional" learners (and struggle with reading and writing), and I realize people must approach academic work in a way that works for them.

Having worked with students from kindergarten to adults, I have the ability to understand what is appropriate both at the academic level, and also specifically for the individual student. I especially enjoy tutoring for complex high-school and college level writing assignments, such as literature reviews and in-depth research papers in addition to the shorter or simpler written assignments of younger people.
