Hi, I'm Belle. My love of linguistics and love of working with youth are my key inspirations to tutoring; I hope to teach my whole life long. I'm friendly, down-to-earth, and always meet my clients right where they are.

I spent 8 years living in Japan, where I gained fluency and earned my teaching license while working in Japanese public elementary schools. I have been teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages for 11 years and Japanese for 5 years.

I feel very strongly about modernizing JP language education. During my tenure at a private school in Seattle I completely rewrote the Japanese curriculum to align with new textbooks (Tobira series) utilizing modern language learning techniques. I never expected to teach Japanese after returning to the US, but have discovered not only do my ESOL teaching skills perfectly apply to JP teaching, but it's a ton of fun.

I also have extensive experience with special needs students. I was the deputy campus manager for a private, special needs school in Seattle that focused on 1:1 education for high school credit retrieval. My experience working with such a vulnerable group of students deepened my empathy and ignited further passion for advocating for what is best for a student.
