Luke: Batavia tutor
Certified Tutor
I received my undergraduate and graduate education at Vanderbilt University, earning a Bachelor's degree in Music and a Master's degree in Education. Though music performance, music theory, general music, and composition are my primary tutoring subjects, I am also passionate about writing, reading comprehension, and algebra. In particular, I love working with students to hone their writing skills, as this is an attribute that is essential for college applications and career development. Since graduating, I have been working as a freelance performer and music educator. As a performer, I mostly work with opera companies and professional choirs, but I have performed and taught many different styles of music! Currently, I teach voice and piano lessons through my church job and also at a private studio. I work with students of all ages, from early elementary to the collegiate level. Central to my teaching approach is the belief that students inherently possess many assets and that these assets should be used to inform my mode of instruction. I strive to adapt my teaching style to support students' strengths and foster growth in areas that need improvement. While I believe in the importance of setting and attaining concrete goals, I also try to emphasize that the process of student growth is just as, if not more, important. Outside of my performing and teaching schedule, I enjoy hiking, exercising, and exploring local art and food.
