As a recently graduated non-traditional student, educational accessibility is extremely important to me. If a student cannot understand something the way it is being taught, the role of the educator is to find a new way to communicate the information. Having worked previously with students with various intellectual and learning disabilities, sometimes a bit of creativity is all that is required to find success.
I love to travel and learn about different cultures and ways of being. Additionally, art and literature were my earliest passions and have influenced my lens as relates to studying science. Science comes alive when dry, academic language is translated with approachable language and often drawing or looking at pictures can help simplify a confusing topic.
My approach to tutoring is to find the ways in which the student learns and adapt my approach to their needs, rather than a one-size fits all approach. English was always my easiest subject to succeed in, but for my higher education I chose to start out in an Art-Education BFA program and eventually finished with a BA in Biology from Brooklyn College after working in the direct-care and healthcare fields for a number of years. Having finished my degree studying subjects that didn't always come easily to me will be helpful in finding ways to help students push through difficult assignments.
