I am currently a rising junior at Brown on my way to medical school as a Biochemistry and Economics dual major. I enjoy math and biology (can you tell!), and love to teach. I've tutored students mainly from elementary school to high school for the past 10 years either for extra money on the side or as a volunteer for disadvantaged students, all the while pursuing my own studies. I like to be an efficient tutor by emphasizing strategies to learn rather than merely forcing my students to memorize their textbooks, although sometimes that is necessary to succeed as well. I know from my own experience how much it matters to retain information in the long run instead of just cramming for short term exams, so expect my approach to be very focused on understanding and reinforcing key points.
I've received all A's in math throughout high school (I was valedictorian!) and high scores on my SAT and Subject Tests in Math II and Biology. My PSAT was high enough that I advanced to the National Merit Semifinals. I genuinely enjoy learning and teaching math and biology, so at the very least I hope I can convey to my students that schoolwork can be interesting and fun! Furthermore, I understand the rigorous process of preparing for exams as well applying to some of the most selective schools in the world. Because of this, I see myself as a mentor as well a tutor because I consider my job to be long term in the growth my students' education.
