I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Every child can learn no matter the circumstance. I continually strive to help students connect to the curriculum objective and feel proud of his/her own strengths. Teaching has been a calling and I love seeing that "light bulb" go on for a student when a challenge has been met. I graduated from Ohio State over 30 years ago with my elementary education major and music minor. The drive to teach has stayed just as strong from the day I graduated to now. With my masters degree from High Point University, I grew as a student myself and the teacher drive continued. Now as the mother of a special needs child my teaching has changed direction. I work from home tutoring children of all types and interests. I love teaching all subjects, but there is a draw toward Math and Science. Interestingly enough those were my worst two subjects as a high school student. Now as a teacher, these are my best two subjects to teach. I know the feeling of being confused and/or frustrated over a math/science sub-topic. Therefore, I know how to solve some of the confusion challenges because I've been there myself. Hence, i can change the dimming light bulb of confusion to a bright light of understanding and confidence.
I have been a tutor for the past several years since my retirement. My tutoring experience includes both face to face and online tutorial instruction. While Math and Science are a definite focus, I have worked with all core subjects to include ESL -Reading instruction.
The integration of music and drama in all core subjects is a special interest, not to mention experiments and the Scientific Method. Remember..."if your mind can conceive, and your heart can believe it, you know you can achieve it! " Let's work together to achieve greatness with understanding.

Hobbies

Even though I'm a retired teacher, I am very active. I enjoy running for fun and exercise. Keep in mind, though, my running nickname is "Turtle." Music is another major interest as well as arts and crafts. I"m always "fiddling" around with something: needlepoint, playing the piano, or something new. Yes, it's important to learn, but the Arts give us something to learn about! (Mr. Holland's Opus)
