I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of Texas A&M University. While I majored in Elementary Education Curriculum and Instruction, my degree is a Bachelor's of Science due to the fact that I minored/specialized in Mathematics. I have over ten years of public school teaching experience, as well as a couple more in private education. I have taught grades K - 6 in some capacity, whether my own classroom, as a substitute teacher, or as a behavioral interventionist. I have the most experience teaching my own classrooms of both 3rd and 5th grade students. My last year of public school teaching, it was a departmentalized setting, and I was the math teacher for all 5th grade classrooms. While I loved teaching all subjects in a self-contained setting, my true calling as an educator is definitely that of teaching Maths! When I first started tutoring, I quickly decided that I would focus exclusively on tutoring math, with an emphasis on grades 3 thru 6. I believe math is fun, and I have fun trying to impart some of my enthusiasm for the subject to my sometimes reluctant learners! I have a very methodical approach, making sure the foundation is strong before moving on to more advanced objectives. Because of my love for the subject, I am a very enthusiastic cheerleader and like to celebrate all the little successes on the journey! Every learner is unique, and it is exciting to discover individual styles and preferences and personalities of my students. I consider tutoring to be among my list of favorite things to do.
