I am a graduate from the University of Arizona with a degree in Accounting. After graduation I worked as a tax accountant for a national firm.

It was not long ago that I was an accounting major. Students would be given a few chapters and they would study it and then be tested on it. The next test there would be few more chapters to study, but the students did not understand how these chapters applied to the past chapters. The majority of the second test would cover topics specifically from the new chapters. What ends up happening is the student only learns accounting in sections and they never understand how to put it all together.

Unfortunately, a student can get through their class and even graduate as an accounting major without fully understanding the accounting cycle. When I tutor students it always emphasized how the current information fits into the big picture. This gives the student a full understanding of how and why things happen in accounting.
