While I enjoy teaching writing in the classroom, I find the one-on-one dynamic of the tutoring session to be more personally satisfying and more conducive to lasting learning. Being able to tailor the tutoring session to the needs of the individual studentbe those needs related to the material itself, to gaps in the student's knowledge base, or to their individual learning styleresults in exciting, tangible gains.

My tutoring philosophy emphasizes building students' self-confidence by breaking assignments down into manageable parts, providing as much guidance as necessary, and allowing students to take the lead as much as possible. I consider modeling repeatable strategies and developing sound work habits to be just as important as completing the task at handbut when it comes down to crunch time, sometimes the priority has to be just getting the work done!
