I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

"When you get, give. When you learn, teach." These words of Maya Angelou hold a truth that should be instinctive for humans, an embodiment of the selflessness that Angelou and many other successful teachers hold above all else. The ability to teach others is a power that all humans hold, and an ability that I hope to share with my students through Varsity Tutors.
I am currently working on my own education at Albion College in Albion, Michigan, where I am majoring in Biology and minoring in Statistics. My experience tutoring peers has been in subjects such as Organic and Inorganic Chemistry, Genetics, and Calculus. During high school, I was a mentor for a younger student, who I helped with high school math, science, and English classes. Of all the classes I have taken in my collegiate career, organic chemistry has been the most difficult, and yet it is one of my favorite to tutor, because the reward of comprehending it is nothing like any other subject I've known. Another reason I enjoy organic chemistry is its real-life applications. We are surrounded by examples of organic chemistry wherever we look, from pharmaceuticals to plastics to our own bodies.
I would describe my tutoring style as leading by example. I like to pull references and information from multiple different sources, to ensure that my student truly comprehends what they are learning. I also like to establish "tricks" when memorization is necessary, such as using a play on words, a rhyme, or something similar.
At Albion, I am a member of the Prentiss M. Brown Honors Program, as well as the Institute for Healthcare Professions. I am a pre-veterinary student, and plan to study large animal medicine after graduating from Albion College. Outside of school, I am a member of the Women's Lacrosse team at Albion. I also enjoy horseback riding, reading, tie-dying, and listening to music. I will be studying abroad this fall in Scotland, at the University of Glasgow.
