My first tutoring experience was during my last semester of my BBA at the University of North Texas. I tutored finance. My student was a single mother with four children. She worked a full time job and attended college part time. She was in her last semester before graduation. But, in order to graduate she had to pass a finance class. She had already failed twice. In short, if she doesn't pass this class, she will not graduate. Obviously, she was under a lot of stress. To help her learn, I explained concepts to her that she could make sense of. For example, an example in the book for just in time inventory was something called an "X-9" and a listing of all the parts that go into an X-9. It made no sense. So, I changed it to owning a pizza parlor and making pizzas. This included ordering, dough, sauce, cheese, etc. This she could understand. In the end, she called to tell me she received a C in the class. It isn't the best, but she was able to graduate on time. It was very satisfying. I would like to have that feeling again.

I love history and anything Scottish. I have been to Scotland four times. I even went to Italy and stayed in Frascatti, which is outside Rome. Bonnie Prince Charlie is buried at the Vatican, but his heart is under the floor of the cathedral in Frascatti. So, I have seen the place where his heart is. If you ask me why he is in two places, I will be glad to answer. I also go to every Scottish festival I can find. I have been all over the US doing that and in the process made a lot of friends. I see them regularly. It's like a Scottish family reunion. I read a lot. Mostly, histories of people in England, Wales, Scotland, France, Italy and Spain. I make my friends crazy when I start talking about the House of Lancaster and the House of York. As far as hobbies, I am working on my genealogy. I ran into a road block on my father's side. But, I keep working at it. I even had my DNA tested, but it did not reveal any big surprises!
