Certified Tutor

My name is Robert A. and I am a California State University Dominguez Hills Graduate; majoring in chemistry and minoring in mathematics. Currently I am working on getting my teaching credentials, which will bring me one step closer to my ultimate goal. My intention is to be a science and/or math teacher at the high school or college level because there is nothing more satisfying than watching a student finally understanding a difficult concept.

My love for teaching and mentoring comes from seeing how ineffective teachers can make students not want to be engaged. Once I entered college, I began to see how effective teachers could make the difference for the students. This example made me want to teach later in life. I have experience working with children and teens from my previous job. This job entailed mentoring both current and former foster youth. I was a foster youth myself as a child and could relate to the youth I mentored. From time to time, they would bring in their algebra or chemistry homework and I was glad to help them be successful.

Early on, I was attracted to the field of science. I really love knowing how things work, especially on the atomic level. My first feat was understanding the periodic table and finding both rhyme and reason to its madness. This understanding led me to majoring in chemistry. With all of the analytical science under my belt, the math just came naturally. Minoring in mathematics made sense because of the critical role the subject plays in chemistry.

I can tutor students with topics such as: chemistry, physical science, quantitative analysis, laboratory techniques, arithmetic, pre-algebra, SAT math preparation, algebra 1 and 2, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and both differential and integral calculus. As a current college student, I am constantly being graded on my performance. As a tutor, I must be held to a higher standard. I welcome honest feedback and constructive criticism. I want to perform at the highest level when it comes to students needing academic tutoring. My college transcript and resume are available upon request of students or parents.
