I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Teri: Mundelein tutor

Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of both University of Edinburgh and Montana State University where I acquired an MSc in Ecological Economics and a BS in Agricultural Business respectively. At present I am working toward re-entering graduate school to obtain a PhD. I enjoy academia greatly and it continuously draws me back in occupationally. Throughout the years I have worked as a college teaching assistant, a substitute teacher primarily in elementary and middle schools, a paraprofessional in a pre-k special education program, and I traveled to South Korea to teach English to both youth and adults.

I tutor a variety of subjects including environmental sciences, economics, and English as a second language. It is seriously hard to pick a favorite subject, but I would have to say I am most passionate about ecological subjects and have a lot of fun with ESL. It is extremely satisfying to see someone grasp a concept they have been struggling with. Not only am I helping someone learn, in the process I myself am expanding and developing my own knowledge and abilities. There is always something to learn and I am eager to do so.

My teaching philosophy is to facilitate active client learning and guide clients as they develop critical thinking skills as well as to impart knowledge of and enthusiasm for the subject matter. I strive to be flexible and adjust to client needs. Though I am a firm proponent of education, it is difficult for the modern school system to adjust to individual needs. Staying engaged in the subject matter is critical. Aside from my own continual self-education.
