Helping others understand the complexity and primary nature of chemistry is not only interesting but fun. My goal is to not only assist others in achieving fundamental skills in chemistry but to provide them with an appreciation of how deeply chemistry impacts our daily lives ??? from the food we eat, to the medicine we take, and the screens used to read these very words. All students can learn to use chemistry to a level that is personally suitable and achieve success. Although there is a defined curriculum that guides our path, each student has different strengths. Thus, everyone needs personalized direction for learning whenever practicable. Through the combination of demonstrations, scenarios, and Socratic learning techniques, my teaching strives to give all use and purpose for learning general (inorganic) chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry.
All true educators never stop learning, but they all have to start somewhere. My background includes a B.S. in Chemistry from Heidelberg College/Trinity College (the Oxford University), a M.S in Chemistry from Case Western Reserve University, and an MBA from Purdue University. I have been an instructor for ten years in some form or another, from teaching assistant to adjunct chemistry instructor.
Outside of teaching chemistry, I am a musician (brass, xylophone/marimba, bass guitar, percussion). I also enjoy bicycling, hiking, reading (history and classics), going to concerts, carpentry, automechanics, financial markets and investing, British comedy, WWI history and, of course, video games.
