Evelyn: Waterbury tutor
Certified Tutor
I am a rising senior at Smith College pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Africana Studies. As a tutor I specialize in elementary, middle, and high school reading and writing, although I am passionate about all aspects and levels of English language literacy. Previously, I have tutored students ages 4-6 in elementary school reading skills, and high school students in foreign language proficiency. For two years I conducted research in a psycholinguistics and language acquisition laboratory, studying the impact of parental input and engagement on reading proficiency in young children. Previous professional positions include: Assistant to the Childrens Librarians at the Somers Public Library, Caregiver Center Volunteer at the Maria Fareri Childrens Hospital, and Family Programs Intern at the New-York Historical Societys DiMenna Childrens History Museum. Regardless of the student or the subject, my paramount goal is to ensure that learning will continue outside of the tutoring session by discovering the students individual passions and interests, which will transform education from a task to an enthusiastic lifelong pursuit. In my free time, I enjoy science fiction and fantasy novels, NPR podcasts, and long walks with family and friends.
