Certified Tutor

I first became interested in teaching in college, when I was given the prestigious opportunity to preceptor Basic Human Anatomy. I led small groups of students through extensive cadaver review, as well independently leading students through weekly review sessions. I enjoyed teaching students who shared a similar passion of learning. I also felt an immense sort of pride and satisfaction when students fully grasped a previously difficult concept, or returned to enthusiastically show me a good grade.

I have acted as a health educator and a life coach for a diabetes prevention program at a clinic for the uninsured and low income. These adult patients were initially skeptical and had low morale, but through dedication and working together they soon became avid students. I have also tutored student athletes at my university. There were many athletes who were capable of doing the work, but were at a loss on where to start. They lived busy schedules and could not prioritize school work, allowing it to build to the point where they were completely overwhelmed. Together we worked on organizational skills, breaking up material into small, achievable goals, and creating better study habits.

Since my college years I have also gained experiences with younger age groups, through tutoring high school students and assistant teaching preschoolers. I have expanded my tutoring to a number of subjects, as needed. However, my specialty is with biology, anatomy, and physiology. I believe every student is capable of achieving their goals through dedication and the willingness to try new study methods.

When I am not tutoring I invest my time in a number of outlets, from spending time with my dogs and weightlifting to working on my novel and painting. I love to cook, dance and bake. I believe life is a series of adventures, but my passion is always geared towards self-improvement and learning.
