I went into Mechanical Engineering because I am fascinated with the idea of applying mechanical engineering solutions to biological research and development. When I was in high school, I was watching Discovery Channels Shark Week. One of the early segments discussed the scientific application of an autonomous, torpedo-shaped device developed to track great white sharks off the Atlantic Coast. I found this so profoundly interesting because it combined my love of engineering with my fascination of science. I realized that if I could do something like this for living, then, as my grandfather says, the happiest people are the folks who make a profession out of something they love to do as a hobby! It is not just the concept that Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUV) can be developed and perfected to track sharks, but it is the appreciation that the application of technology aids in the understanding (knowledge base) and appreciation of natural events.
