Introductions, including hobbies. Exchange of contact info. Set goals, review textbooks, assignments, and course schedule. Ask for a self-assessment from the student. Set an assignment for the next tutoring session.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By prompting the student to explain solution strategies for assignments.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I give incremental feedback for progress made and successes. I give warm regards and give motivation for the student's success.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I'd explore alternate contexts, learning resources, and strategies that match the student.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I model engagement and flexible learning strategies. I emphasize a relaxed attitude during challenges.

I prompt the student to paraphrase text and give explanations of example problems.

With incremental positive reinforcement. I show confidence in the student.
