What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe in a visual approach to learning, which can be done through the use of pictures, objects, and models.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

First, introduce myself and ask the student if they have any question about me. Next, I would move on and ask the student what they are struggling with.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By teaching them different methods to get to the answer themselves.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Constant encouragement is key.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Break down the concept into smaller, more understandable segments, which then can be put together to create the larger concept.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I encourage students to take notes while they are reading as well as breaks in between each section. This helps retain the information better and can help the student stay motivated.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I will ask a student what they think they are struggling with and then, as I work with them, identify if that is what they are struggling with or if the issues stem from something else.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Tutoring is all about the student's success. If the way I explain does not make sense to the student, I will adapt and use a different method of explanation.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Images, models, and hands-on techniques.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Making sure that a student is comfortable is essential in a tutoring interaction. If they are comfortable, they will be more willing to share what they are struggling with and getting things wrong.
