Certified Tutor
I am a self taught musician of 9 1/2 years. I was first introduced to the guitar by my father, a blues musician of 40+ years, who gave me lessons for about a month. I stopped playing for a year and was inspired to pick it up again after buying a Nirvana album. Between the ages of 11 and 12 I taught myself tablature, chords, scales, and a multitude of rock songs. Since high school I have been in many bands ranging from blues to metal to pop, but find the most satisfaction in my solo work fusing acoustic blues and jazz styles with undertones of punk rock. I have lead a variety of bands including heavy metal, pop, and reggae. I currently am a professional cook and intend on studying music and political science! Outside of music I enjoy skateboarding, bicycling, meditation, reading, cooking, and being around animals. As a tutor I believe in balancing fundamentals with creativity. Music is more than sounds structured by rhythm, notes, and harmonies; it is an expression of the inner lives we all experience. Music is the power of identity in a form outside of the familiar. We are all artists.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Review of subjects, asking students questions, encouraging they ask questions, providing material, and moving on to teach other material that coincides with what they have an issue with. I believe guitar should be taught step by step, but when confusion arises I believe the big picture approach evens things out.
