What is your teaching philosophy?
The art of teaching is not to impart skills. It is to inspire, wake up, and encourage them.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Teach students Chinese with fun games, and sing an American song in Chinese.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Ask some questions that interest students, and let them think and answer.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Set a plan and goals, so that students work hard at the same time as being encouraged and praised.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
A teacher has to have more patience for each student to develop their interests.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Every word is like a brick. Getting more brick allows the building to grow larger. So helping students to know more words and phrases can help with their overall reading ability.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Providing interest is the key to success.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Make full use of and connect to the material in life to stimulate the student's interest in learning.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I personally think that the most important language learning method is visual and verbal memory, I am going to use some fun cards and body language to teach them.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
I give them more praise and rewards.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Pay attention to the details of the students.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I teach students in accordance with their aptitude. I follow these principles: educate someone according to his natural ability; modify one's way of teaching to suit the special requirements of each class or case; suit the teaching to the ability of the pupils; teach a person according to what he is good at; teach each man according to his merits; use such teaching methods as are best adapted to the students.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I will use the good Chinese information that I bring back from China.
