What is your teaching philosophy?

I think teaching is a way to communicate your knowledge. In this age of the Internet, it's very easy to get information about anything, but to convert that into knowledge requires some able guidance. Therefore, I believe in sharing and receiving information with the students in order to try to evolve that into knowledge, which they can carry with themselves for the rest of their lives.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would definitely like to know what they would like to learn, and how can I design my sessions to serve that.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

The best way for a student to independently learn is to explore the subject before anyone gives them a lecture on it. If they prepare before sessions then they can ask more relevant questions, and also benefit more than being totally blindsided.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Once someone understands something clearly they often develop an interest in that area; therefore, the motivation follows it. My aim will be to make them love the subject.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I will try different methods to help them understand. Communicating with questions like "what do you understand so far" and "please explain" can guide what I should do next.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I will translate the reading into a more comprehensive language that they can understand better.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Pictorial representation works best because it has the student make a mental picture of the concept. Giving everyday life examples is another successful method.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Once a student's doubts are cleared, which hinder one's thinking process, they will no longer struggle and will instead begin getting excited and feel like they've achieved something.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I will definitely use test materials, ask them to write assays, and any other methods they are comfortable with.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

By explaining concepts to them efficiently and checking with them to be sure they understand it.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

By communicating and sometimes testing their pool of knowledge.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I can adapt to whatever they are comfortable with; the ultimate aim is to make the subject their favorite.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I like using presentations and whiteboard teaching as well.
