Certified Tutor
I tutored kids as a part-time job after I finished college. Then I went on to teach middle and high school classes as a Teach for America teacher for a couple of months.
After completing two Master degrees in business and bioscience, I worked as a product manager in the medical device industry for the past 10+ years.
My kids are now four and six, and I decided to take some time to be a stay-at-home mom to be more involved in their lives. Taking on tutoring jobs during my free time gives me the opportunity to interact and help others, which I really enjoy.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Every child has the ability and gift to learn. Although they may learn differently, we can find ways to meet their unique learning styles.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Communicate to learn about the student as a person and as a learner. Find out how he/she learns best.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Motivate the student through his/her curiosity and interests.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I believe in implementing a good reward system. I've successfully implemented great reward systems with my own kids.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would try another teaching approach. There are different ways to learn.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I believe reading aloud to students is a good routine to have. Most kids who are read aloud to since they were young usually are good readers. Everyone enjoys a good story. I would engage them in a story they are interested in, and ask them questions such as setting, characters, plot, etc. Those are the beginning steps to reading comprehension.
