As a college student studying to be an elementary school teacher, I have learned how to engage students in their learning by making them active participants. I believe that students learn by doing and a teacher is there to encourage and guide the students through each step of the way!

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that learning can be a complex process, and students need to be an active participant. The role of a teacher is to encourage and guide the students to seek knowledge on their own.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
For tutoring to be successful, the student needs to be comfortable with the tutor. During the first session, it's important to introduce yourself and find out what you can about the student. Find out how much they are willing to share with you about themselves personally. Then, it is important to identify what issues need to be addressed and what the student's goals are for the sessions. We will talk about what each session from there on out will be like and try to prepare ourselves for each session.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Each student learns in their own way, and it is important for them to discover how they learn. They can be a visual, auditory, hands-on learner, etc. As a tutor, I want to find the way my students learn best so that they can be more independent.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
When the teacher is motivated and excited, it gets the student excited. Instead of pushing information onto a student, it is important to involve them and make the information more interesting.
