I currently possess a Ms. Ed in Early Childhood Education from Northcentral University. I've worked with elementary students for 20 years in the capacity of a substitute teacher or a tutor. I've tutored families of children age 4, 10,1, & 12 years of age. I've substituted in grades of kindergarten- seventh grade.

What is your teaching philosophy?
My philosophy for educating is the best way to educate students is to meet them on their level and scaffold the students forward.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In my first session, I would build communication and comfort by introducing icebreaker tactics at the student's level of understanding.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I would build on each student's phonetic abilities at their level of comprehension.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would bring a prize box and reward students for staying motivated, and also I would speak to students on their level.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I believe in repetition as a tactic for learning, and provide this service based on comprehension.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I would use cvc or cvcc and sounding out each word.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I would approach every student with a friendly tone. I would also use the strategy of comfort-ability.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
If the subject was math, I'd use concrete objects. If the subject is language-driven, I would use word association games.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I would complete the session by having a review.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
I would congratulate the student on positives from graded assignments.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I would have the student complete an assessment prior to beginning a session.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
The child's needs is the reason for tutoring; therefore, every session will be based on the needs of the child.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I would use concrete object;, for example, toy cars and teddy bears.
