Levi: Durham tutor
Certified Tutor
I received my B.A. in Theater & Performance Studies with minors in French and computer science from Stanford University. Over the summer following graduation, I discovered my love for teaching while preparing several high school students for an introductory computer science class. Since then, I have had the pleasure of tutoring a range of subjects in the Bay Area and Los Angeles thanks to my liberal arts education. While I tutor many areas of mathematics -- including geometry, algebra, and calculus -- my strengths lie in standardized test prep and French. I most enjoy teaching computer science because I believe that it models the ideal learning system. We study the basics of the programming language, master essential concepts, and then apply our knowledge to complicated problems using logic (a technique that can always be improved!). My teaching approach follows from this structure: once students master the basics, all that is left is to exercise their problem-solving skills in using those key principles. Most importantly, I guide my students to a place where they can enjoy their work because an excited student will always learn better than I can teach. In my free time, I love to run, play soccer, and read Shakespeare.

What is your teaching philosophy?
To learn best, we must be interested in and excited about the material. As a teacher, I guide my students to that place because, once there, they will always learn better than I can teach.
