What is your teaching philosophy?
Different students need different philosophies to help them learn.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Get to know them and figure out what should I do to help them learn.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By giving them individual and personalized assignments.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Try different approaches until I find a solution that fits.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Help them break down an essay into paragraphs, sentences, or even words.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Encouragement and incentives!
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Use games and media to help them better understand the materials.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I would check in on learning, and conduct in-class quizzes.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
I will slow down when I see a student is struggling to make sure the student is ready to move on.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
By listening to the student's self-evaluation and give him or her a test.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I will find their needs first before I begin tutoring, such as their level of understanding on the topics, pronunciation, etc.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I'd like to use their material if they have it. If they don't I have some Chinese textbooks from China.
