I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

After getting my Bachelor's in Physics, I immediately went into my dream job, teaching. I have taught a variety of courses ranging from 6th grade math to 11th grade Physics. Teaching in private school gave me an appreciation for learning about my students as individuals and getting to know their interests, goals, and worries. As an independent school teacher, I also was encouraged to use different teaching methods and technologies to reach my wide range of learners. I spent most of my time teaching in an all-girls school, so I especially love helping girls feel excited and confident about math and science.

I believe that everyone has a unique style of learning and so I always try to find the approach that makes sense to each individual. Instead of giving a student the answer, I prefer to walk through the thought process and talk through the approach. To start a problem, I always say, "what are your thoughts?"

This year I decided to leave teaching to pursue my Master's in Mechanical Engineering. I am still passionate about teaching and especially love teaching the foundation courses, so I am continuing to tutor through my own studies. Being a student and a teacher has really helped me see where my students are coming from and understand some of their struggles or concerns. It also helps to be able to tell them where they will use their skills in the future!

I believe that math and science teach us important skills that we continue to use through our lifetime. Problem-solving and thinking through multiple steps are skills we use everyday! I know that every student is capable of being successful in math and science and I look forward to helping them find the approach that works for them!
