What is your teaching philosophy?

My goal as a teacher is to reinstate confidence and create a joy from the topic subject so the knowledge can be absorbed fundamentally.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

We will discuss general areas of each subject where the student may struggle and take a step back to see where we can create building blocks that will help them find clear solutions.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I want to help the student be able to assess any question logically, to be able to understand its parameters and find the answers from their own analysis.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

We will rewind and analyze what are the missing items, so that a simple concept is understood before pushing forward into any further material.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Students need to accurately understand written material. We will decode what they are reading, make connections from what they read and what they already know, and think back to what they have read to briefly summarize.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would hold high expectations to go along with my enthusiasm towards the subject. If we are working on appropriate and understandable examples, that will build the student's confidence and create a self-motivation.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I like to begin every activity with a task that most can do without my help. These initial easy tasks will always be followed by increasingly challenging ones that the student will be aware of so they have a chance to excel.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I like to introduce my professional mentality to help a student get excited or engaged with a subject. I try to integrate a design process to the subject matter, instead of just the initial first effort as an answer. The initial answer is just a prototype to produce higher quality work.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

To help students grasp ideas, I ask pointed questions that require students to use their own prior knowledge. Yes or no questions will not help you realize if they are still lost. By having students reflect on the lesson and write down what they've learned, they create their own little study guide and may ensure how they may apply the skill to a practical setting.
