Brandon: Clarkstown tutor
Certified Tutor
I am currently a middle school language arts teacher, although I have also taught a self-contained 6th grade class. I enjoy most the fields of math and science but have also come to appreciate the importance of language arts and literature. I like to think of myself as a balanced tutor.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe in the classical model of education, whereby teachers focus on content rather than teaching to the test. Education should create good citizens by teaching students the importance of the past, their place in the present, and their power for influencing the future.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would introduce myself, have a brief chat to learn more about the student, and then discuss our goals for that session and for the set of sessions as a whole. After that, we can begin with the content.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would set different levels of goals, starting with small, easily accomplished goals.
