If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Take a more visual approach, and incorporate students' daily activities into learning.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Conceptual questions help students understand how different concepts relate to one another.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

First walk them through the long ways of doing a problem, and then show them the right way.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is to help students discover their own way of learning.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Get to know a student’s past experience and knowledge, as well as their goal and motivation in learning the subject.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Help students do what is necessary to stay with the subject, introduce a few things that they are able to do by learning the subject, and then bridge the gap.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Help students understand how an answer does or does not make sense, and how concepts relate to each other within the context of the subject.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Bring real life examples. Help students do better at what they do using what they learn from the subject.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Take them through the journey that is written in the text. Once they are in the journey, they can retell the story 'without comprehending' what they read.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Every student is unique. The best strategy is to seek to learn from students first, and then help them learn the way that they learn.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Listen attentively to how students explain the concepts, which will show their strength and weakness in learning and their foundation and knowledge in the subject.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Start with the mistakes that students make, figure out why the mistakes are repeated, and develop activities to guide students on the correct path.
