I am a patient, energetic, and enthusiastic educator with a passionate commitment to student development and the learning experience. As your child's tutor, I will strive to provide creative, engaging, yet rigorous learning sessions. My priority is to give the support and motivation your child needs to master content and develop the necessary skills to be a productive member of society and a life-long learner.

During the first tutoring session, I enjoy getting acquainted with the student, learning about his/her hobbies and interests. I then have the student take an assessment, where after we review the results and discuss goals for our future sessions, taking into account learning styles and preferences.

Offering choices to a student and allowing him/her to set learning goals and be reflective on his/her learning style and concepts learned during the day, as well as providing a student with opportunities to self-monitor are some of the ways I try to help my students become an independent learner.

I like to offer extrinsic rewards (fun, tangible items) upon completion of work, as well as tap into the student's intrinsic motivators.

I reteach the concept, using different examples and methods. I also relate the concept to one the student has previously mastered.

Research has shown a significant link between vocabulary knowledge and reading comprehension abilities. Hence, I would review vocabulary with students struggling with reading comprehension. Research has also found that morphological awareness plays a role in reading comprehension. Therefore, I would help my student fortify his/her knowledge of word prefixes, suffixes, and roots. In addition, I would teach my student a variety of question-making and reading strategies, such as SQ3R, KWL, etc., so that he/she can select the strategies most comfortable to his/her learning style.

I love paper, cards, colors, scissors, and manipulatives. I utilize as many resources as I can to help imprint the concepts being worked on, and liven up a tutoring session.

Exposing students to real-world examples and applications of concepts they are struggling in is one way I engage my students. I also have students chart out their goals and visualize the importance of why they might need to excel in the subject they are struggling in currently to succeed in the future.

There are many techniques I use to confirm that a student understands the material. These include having the student orally summarize the concept, provide examples, complete an assessment, or write a reflection on the concepts he/she recently learned.
