Cathy: Winnipeg tutor
Certified Tutor
I graduated summa cum laude with my undergraduate accounting degree and I earned my masters degree in accountancy. I have tutored students of all ages for six years now.
I have worked in consumer finance, real estate, and banking for more than twenty years and have a passion for numbers. I currently work as a jumbo mortgage underwriter, forensic accountant, and tutor.
Outside of work, I am kept busy by my husband and three children.
As a tutor, I listen closely, offer tips when needed, and provide lesson plans or additional practice, if requested. I have experience with students from elementary school through grad school, plus adult learners and I can cater my sessions to meet a variety of learning needs. I respond promptly and am more than willing to work with students to schedule sessions that are convenient and fit their scheduling needs.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Every student is unique. Whether you learn best visually, through verbal explanation, with repetition or some other way, I can help walk you through the concepts to develop a lasting understanding.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a typical first session, we will determine where you are and where you want or need to be. We will figure out how you learn best, how I can help the most, and jump right in.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I can teach you study techniques and help you discover what tools will work best for you.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
We will celebrate your accomplishments. Each new session will begin with a refresher from the last so we can pick up where we left off and keep moving forward.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
We can go as slowly or swiftly as you prefer. If a particular skill or concept proves difficult, we can approach it in a variety of ways until one clicks.
