Certified Tutor

I graduated from the University of South Florida with my degree in Biomedical Sciences. I am planning on attending graduate school in the fall to pursue my education and one day become involved in medical research. I enjoy helping others achieve their goals through tutoring. I tutor students in various subject courses, although math has always been my favorite. It is so rewarding to see students work out challenging problems and see their confidence boost right before your eyes! I believe in positive reinforcement to achieve a student's academic goals. Outside of tutoring, I work in the medical field. My favorite activities include anything outdoors, more specifically, roller blading, beach volleyball and running.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe in positive reinforcement as well as breaking down problems under a magnifying glass to see all that can be learned about each problem. The details matter!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Typically, I will ask the student what they would like to achieve throughout the tutoring sessions. I would ask what areas need improvement and where they feel confident in. I also take into consideration that not every student has the same learning style, and therefore, I do not use a cookie-cutter approach to tutoring. I assess which teaching method will be best.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

It's important to make sure a student feels comfortable and confident in themselves. I will provide the necessary information, tools, and resources for students to then practice problems on their own.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would take a step back and see what other angle I could take in order to help the student achieve their goal. It could be as simple as further explaining a topic or even changing the teaching method. Perhaps from visually learning to hands-on learning.
