What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that you need to see math as a puzzle. If you are not interested, you will not be able to solve it.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Get to know the student and what their level of math is, and what they want to achieve in their course of study.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By not being a tutor who just gives out the answer, but instead, help the student to reach there with a minimal help so they can remember that they struggled in this homework question, but they were able to reach the answer by themselves (achievement).

How would you help a student stay motivated?

By telling them that everyone struggles, and the people who try their best are the people who are successful. And you can never give up.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Practice more, or start with an easier concept.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Watching someone doing the problem is the best solution. Some people don't like reading but they are a visual learner, so it is not bad that we are all different in learning.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Writing out the general steps and techniques for every problem.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I don't have to tell them; they will see it when they get good grades because of their work.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

The first session is the key.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

It depends on the student's learning strategy.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Everything that is available, and that would help me help the student understand the concept.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

For math, I would show them how we can use math in real life.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Understanding the student's personality.
