Certified Tutor
I have been tutoring for 6 years, and I love it! From private students to working at my college's writing center, tutoring is a big part of my life. I like to emphasize tutoring as conversation - I am not providing answers, rather helping you explore your own. I am double majoring in English and Psychology going into my senior year, with hopes to become a speech pathologist after completes my undergraduate degrees.
In my free time, I love running, playing the piano, and watching comedies. I look forward to meeting you!

What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy emphasizes collaboration. We are here to work together, to help create strategies that work for you.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a first session, I would love to discuss your goals and what you think is working well with their academics so far. Then discuss areas we would like to improve, working on some practice questions and challenges together so that we can come up with a plan to meet your goals.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I like to use questions that encourage the student’s self -awareness. For example, when working on reading comprehension, instead of simply asking "what was this passage about?" I ask "how well do you think you understood this passage?" and then compare this to how students perform on comprehension questions. This helps the student self-monitor his or her progress.
