I am a Health Sciences and Biology double major at Northeastern University, graduating in just one year. I have worked in part-time biology research lab for three years, as well as full-time in a hospital in Boston for over a year now, in both clinical and research settings.
My tutoring experience started a few years ago when I taught a nutrition class to children in their early teens, teaching them the basics of nutrition, such as picking healthy ingredients and avoiding processed foods. Since then, I have been a part-time tutor, and I look forward to meeting lots of new students through Varsity Tutors!
As a current college student, I have taken many of the classes I tutor very recently, and am still actively involved in learning, especially in science classes. When I am tutoring for a course, I like to teach the students the way I would have liked to be taught, and I try to teach things that help them remember the material more easily, and connect the dots to understand the big picture.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I like to thoroughly work through every question a student has, to ensure that they not only know the right answer, but also understand why that answer is right and how to come up with it on their own in the future.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would try to get an understanding of what the student expects from the lessons, what their weak points are, and what they already do understand, so we can better tailor future lessons to fit their needs, and not waste time teaching them things they already know.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By ensuring that the student understands the basics of the material in question and how to study on their own, I can help the student become an independent learner.
