Certified Tutor
I am a current undergraduate hoping to major in mechanical engineering at Lee College in Baytown, Texas. I am from a small town named Blythe, California, born and raised. Back home, I was a one-on-one instructional aide for a student diagnosed with autism, which was an amazing experience. I have about half a year's experience tutoring elementary math up to high school pre-cal for a different tutoring service. I also spent a ton of time tutoring my three younger brothers, which required an insane amount of patience. Just joking, I genuinely enjoy helping others learn and can't wait to be of any assistance to those who need it.
During my time as a tutor, I've noticed that students are not so much having problems with understanding the current topic, but how to apply the basics behind it to the problem. To solve this, I always like to backtrack a little and find out what types of problems the students feel confident solving and work our way forward from there.
On my off time, I like to play soccer, basketball, cruise around town on my skateboard and occasionally will grab the controller and start playing some video games.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In the first session, I would find out what types of problems the student feels comfortable solving, go over the basics, and move forward from there.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I definitely will not be handing out answers, but instead encouraging the student to critically think about the problem. I will help the student realize that if they are having trouble with the current topic, backtrack and take it back to the basics.
