Hi everyone,
My name is David. I recently graduated from Yale with a major in Biology. I'm back in Nashville taking a gap year before applying to medical school. Aside from tutoring I spend a good amount of time covering the Tennessee Titans and occasionally the Memphis Grizzlies for different sports media sites. Other interests of mine include: exercise, studio art, and finding new music. I'm also a big fan of "Scrubs" on TV.

Find out strengths and areas for improvement.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By teaching them how to mentally approach problems.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
By being upbeat and encouraging.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Explain the concept multiple ways, and see which explanation comes across best.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Carry out practice problems, identify student's weaknesses, and work on the mental approach to challenging problems.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
By working on the subject until we make improvement.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Talk with a student and ask what they struggle most with. Also, carry out practice problems to find other areas for improvement.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Pencil, paper, calculator.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Be upbeat and encouraging.
