I whole-heartedly believe that no student should ever be left behind and that any student is more than capable of succeeding academically. All it takes is having a teacher that is dedicated and understand the individual needs and learning styles of the student. That is what separate's me form the rest; I am adaptable.

I worked for Massachusetts Institute of Technology summer programs for high school students and have worked inner city schools in Boston, MA at many grade levels developing programs and have seen this philosophy work and come to life.

Let's make this learning experience unique and fun!

What is your teaching philosophy?

Everyone has a different learning style and pace, and every tutor should have a complimentary and adaptable teaching style. That is the key to making learning effective and fun!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Get to know my student, and let my student get to know me! Learn what the student's goals are, as well as their perceptions of strengths and weaknesses.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By teaching them my approach to solving complex problems, which usually involves breaking a problem down into smaller solvable problems.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Enthusiasm! I would also share my personal stories of struggle and how I overcame them, as well as how my academic progress made a huge difference in my life.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Adapt! Find another way to present the concept.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

It's important to slow down sometimes to a comfortable pace!

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Be energetic, open, and adaptable!

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Tell them that my teaching style is much more contemporary and energetic than traditional teaching.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Adaptability! But also using different mediums such as graphical methods/creating visuals, diagraming, drawing analogies, etc.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

By telling them that I will without a doubt help them succeed in the subject.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Based on their perceived strengths/weaknesses vs. my perceptions of them.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

By having multiple approaches to problem solving, and by reading the energy of the student.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Paper, pencil, gestures, diagrams, calculators, etc.
