Certified Tutor
I'm a German national and have been living in New York since September 2015. I graduated with a BA in Library and Information Science from the Professional College in Hamburg. The focus of my studies was on the archival of images which let to a career as a photo researcher and archivist for agencies and publishers.
I love tutoring German because I feel as a native German I'm in a unique position to help students learn both the language and the culture of Germany. Whether helping beginners with problems or grammar questions, or training advanced students in their language skills through conversation, I like to tailor my tutoring to the needs and preferences of the student. This could mean providing additional exercises to the ones you have already, or discussing German newspaper or magazine articles. I can help prepare for a trip to Germany by talking through basic things like to tackle public transport or how to order in restaurants, or support professionals who need to interact with German clients or business partners. I'm a calm and patient person, and I believe there are no stupid questions, just stupid answers. My aim is to put students at ease and to make learning fun.
In my free time I like to got to movies and the theater or see the latest photo or art exhibits at museums and galleries (I'm a visual person after all). I also enjoy reading, both in German and in English.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Tailor lessons to the personality, curiosity and ability of the student: make learning fun and something to look forward to.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Talk about what they expect from me and what they want to gain from the tutoring sessions. This way I can plan sessions that we're both happy with.
