Certified Tutor

Being in my final year of undergraduate studies, I have learned that the world of academia is different for every person. Every student has a different way of learning, a different way of studying, and a different way of succeeding. This is why I strive to make every tutoring experience unique. I have a very diverse academic background, having lived and studied in both Europe and America, and my goal is to use all the knowledge I've gained to make each tutoring experience as rewarding for the student as it is for me. I look forward to helping more students make their academic lives just a little less stressful by presenting materials from a different perspective and reviewing concepts in a way that may be more easily understood. No two students are the same, and I fully intend on personalizing every session to fit the student's learning style.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My philosophy is that each student has their own unique way of learning, and I wholeheartedly believe in personalizing each tutoring experience.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

The greatest motivation for a student is seeing positive results, especially with respect to grades. Focusing on their weaknesses while reminding them of their strengths is the greatest way of motivating a student that they DO have what it takes to achieve their goals.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

It is very common to be stumped by a concept, and nothing is more frustrating than not understanding a subject. The best thing to do is offer a fresh perspective, and attack the topic from a new angle.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

The best way to ensure that a student understands the material is to ask them to explain the topic to the tutor as if they were the ones teaching the subject. If they can comfortably (and correctly) explain the concept, then they have successfully grasped the material.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Reinforcing what the students DO understand can boost their confidence and make it less stressful when they focus on what they're struggling with.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Since each student is different, the best way to suit the student's needs is by figuring out what works best for them. This may include trial and error, and their study plans may evolve as new techniques prove to work better than others.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Flashcards, visual aids, examples, and analogies are great study materials.
