I love explaining things to people because I love it when people learn. I myself love that moment of "eureka!" where I finally get what I'm learning and I find it very rewarding to learn. I want to share that love of learning to others who are wanting to learn and are struggling with it.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I feel as though teaching must be collaborative with those who are learning. There's no sense in teaching if you can't engage with the learners and allow them to truly learn.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would get to know the student in order to learn his personality and find out the best way to start teaching him.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I would teach them the joy of learning and how rewarding it can be to learn new things. Then I would teach them how to learn in a way that will allow them to retain as much info as possible.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Give them certain incentives if they continue to try and achieve what they need to.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Try out another method or a different approach. If all else fails, I would stop and take a break in order to refresh their mind, and allow us to go at it again with a clear head.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Place them in a comfortable environment. If they are happy and comfortable, then they will be more willing to learn.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would show how this subject could pertain to them in a real-world situation that would interest them.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would test them on a variety of things and also give it some time for the material to sink in their heads, and then test them again to see if the material stuck.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Try to empathize with them and show them that it’s okay to fail once or twice, so long as you succeed in the end.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Whatever materials that would be needed.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I'll talk to them and ask them some basic questions on what they're good at and not good at.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I'll do as much as I can do adapt to their needs. Whether they need more material ornot, whatever it may be, I will do what I can.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I will do other things that will help them. For example, there are plenty of games and strategies that can be used to help them.
