Certified Tutor

I am a junior at George Washington University studying International Relations with a concentration in Africa. I came from the Ivory Coast, a french speaking country. I got a degree in literature over there, and ever since I have never stopped trying to learn more about the language.

For the past few years, I worked closely with children as a corps member for jumpstart, an educational program for preschoolers. I was also the nanny of a french middle schooler for two years. I daily supervised her work and helped her to improve her french.

No matter what is your french level, I can assure you that I can help you get better. I hope you will give me a chance to prove it to you. Looking forward to hearing from you

What is your teaching philosophy?

I truly believe that every student is unique, and as a tutor, I have to design a method that is going to work for you. Some people learn by reading, some by having a lot of discussion, and others by doing a lot of writing. No matter what your style of learning is, I can provide you the service you deserve to have.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

During the first session, I just discuss. I learn to know more about you and your French level. I make a plan with you and we make a commitment together.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Becoming an independent learner requires a lot of self-motivation and organization. Once a student shows that he has those two elements, I can help him by giving him helpful website that he can use weekly, podcasts that he can listen to, musics, movies, and others activities that may help.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

The best way to build a student confidence is by telling him/her how important the subject is, and how it can help him in real life.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I evaluate student's needs by discussing with them, by being around them, and working with them. It is the sum of what they tell me and what they work on that shows me how much they need to learn.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

During my session, I usually use a lot of books (grammar books, kids books, novels).

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

The best way to help students in a subject that they are struggling with is by showing them first how important the subject is, and then by finding the learning style that works for this specific student.
