I'm a lifelong learner living in Austin, Texas. Writing and literature are my passion and expertise although I'm always willing to dip a toe whenever possible. I've been told I'm an affable and approachable tutor and person. I believe in catering my approach to each student's learning style. There's no 'wrong' way to learn!
I received my Bachelor's degree in Creative Writing at Metropolitan State University Denver in 2015. I first started tutoring in high school by participating in an after school reading program for elementary students and continued into college. At MSU Denver I held two official tutoring positions through the First Year Success Program's Supplemental Instruction and the federally funded program TRiO Student Success Services. Although I've tutored in multiple subjects my passion lies with writing. When I'm not writing or reading I enjoy walks with my dog Tenshi, baking and the occasional craft (I minored in Studio Art so I fancy myself an amateur artist).

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe in catering my approach to each individual student's preferred learning style. The beauty of learning is there's more than one way, and I enjoy helping a student establish their style.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I like to get to know my students a little first, so in an opening session I might ask questions to help me understand my student's needs and expectations. I would then invite my student to ask the same of me.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I love helping students develop their leadership and learning styles! As a tutor I like to think of myself as a knowledgeable guide along the student's path to learning, I can provide them the possible routes but it's ultimately up to the student to pick the path.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I'm a big fan of time management and breaking big pieces into smaller more manageable ones. I encourage students to set reasonable goals and set up a 'game' plan to achieve them.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would start by breaking the concept into smaller more manageable pieces catered to the student's individual learning style.
