The chance to help people is my motivation to get out of bed in the morning and teaching is one of my favorite ways to help. I am a certified MRI technologist, a certified medical coder and I have bachelors of science in Biology. This education and work has given me extensive knowledge of anatomy and the human biological sciences. So, these are the areas where I can offer the most assistance. I bring to our tutoring sessions the experience of being a teacher assistant in Anatomy, Physiology and Histology and substitute teaching. I look forward to helping you succeed.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My objective is to bring knowledge through interactive teaching. I like to work together on topics for as long as it takes for the student to be able to answer questions and teach me the information.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In the first session, I like to ask students about what teaching methods have worked well for them in the past. I also like to ask about the subject to find out where they are struggling.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I like to teach students different methods of teaching. For example, some students learn independently with flashcards. Others do well with listening to podcasts on the topic.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

In my opinion, rewards are the best way to keep students motivated. I am a big fan of dangling a carrot.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I try to teach it in a different way. I have been known to use songs, videos, alliteration, and dancing to get my point across.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I review the material sentence by sentence and explain and educate on each word they are having trouble understanding.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I try to keep the session as interactive as possible. By doing this, I get to know the student's knowledge level, learning styles, and motivators.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I like to show them how this information is applicable to their daily life.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I like to have the student try to teach me the material.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I am a big fan of compliments.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I quiz them on the subject.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I switch my teaching methods.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Pictures, and occasionally videos.
