What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that teaching is a uniquely individual experience, and what works for one student may not work for the next. It is important to cater to different learning styles.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

It's important to start out by setting goals so that the student can pace themselves and check the boxes (and confidence!) off as they accomplish those goals.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I love the following quote: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." It's important to learn techniques as well as information!

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would constantly remind them of their goals and why are they are studying to begin with!

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would try new methods of learning until the student understands. Interacting with something almost always helps.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would break things down into bite size pieces and try to teach skills that will help the student conquer the information on their own in the future.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I think settings goals is super helpful. I believe that seeing an end in sight helps a student to stay motivated!

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would make it interesting and fun, and relate it to things they already love!

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would ask simple but deep questions that would show the student and me that they truly grasp the concepts.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Success is always the best confidence booster. When a student is doing well, with the right study techniques and help, that will boost their morale!

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Simply by asking questions and getting to know a student.
